So you invested in creating a great landscape design and everything has been planted. Now it time to keep your flowers, trees, and bushes healthy and vibrant all summer long by watering them the right way! You need to water you plants enough to saturate them but then go no further.
Tips for Watering Your Plants in the Summer
- Weather – If you are going to get rain, don’t water too much before it does rain. If it’s going to be in the 70s most of the week then watering once a week should be enough but if it’s going to get in the 90’s or higher then you need to increase the frequency of your watering to every other day.
- Timing – The best time to water your plants is in the early- to mid-morning, so that your plants will have enough water through the hottest part of the day.
- Amount of Water – After a watering the top half-inch of your soil should be moist. Check back often.
- Method – The key is to evenly water the base of the soil. Plants with wet leaves wet have a great change at developing disease. Watering cans and soaker hoses work best to evenly spread the water around the base of the plant.
